For many that try to attract and engage fans through the networking site, there is something fundamentally awkward about the attempt to get fans to optin to an offer.
Strategy 1. Get the “Like” before the love. It is critical to get your potential leads to “like” your page before you can engage with them further. In all likelihood, less than 1 percent of your Facebook fans will ever return to your business page. By getting them to “like” you, they can engage with you through your news feed. This will lay the groundwork for building awareness and establishing trust. By incorporating sign-up forms, calls to action, and links to your website for content to share, special deals, and rewards for fans, you can increase engagement and generate leads using Facebook.
Strategy 2. Integrate leads with “Likes”. Regularly share content like e-books, white papers, and webinars within your Facebook content stream. Remind your fans of the usefulness and effectiveness of your content by offering solid links and snippets using posts that emphasize the material itself instead of the “sign up now” directive.
Strategy 3. Create a contest or sweepstakes. This is a great way to attract fans assuming you pick your prize carefully and make sure it matches the interest of your target market. As a word of caution, before you launch any Facebook contest or sweepstakes, read the fine print of Facebook’s promotion guidelines. Promotions must be administered as a separate page or as an app on a page tab. You can not collect leads, conduct a drawing, or notify winners through your main Facebook wall.
Strategy 4. Understand the algorightm. Facebook buries boring content of your news feed. The key is to update Facebook with content that ignites your visibility. What works best? Ask open-ended questions to invite interaction. Create updates that offer real valueas opposed to spewing sales messages. Post at different times of the day. Tell your story visually by using videos and photos and avoid text-only status updates.
Strategy 5. Think outside Facebook. Embedding widgets and plug-ins into your businesses’s website can be a significant way to increase engagement. Be sure to embed sharing icons in your landing page and emails to allow your followers, fans, and prospects to easily share your content, offers, and special deals with their friends thereby augmenting your visibility.
In closing, remember that Facebook is a busy place. It has a larger population than any country in the world except China and India. According to Facebook, its citizens visit the site an average of 40 times per month for an average of 23 minutes per visit. What that means to business users of Facebook is that any business related messaging is competing with potentially far more compelling stuff like photos, party invites, and “what does that hot guy from school look like now?” Just be sure to have a business page for your company and not just an individual profile.
