Facebook was founded in a Harvard dorm room and was not built for you the advertiser.  They were not trying to meet your needs.  They were not interested in providing you clicks.

In reality, they had no idea what they were doing.  They had no idea it would be instrumental in toppling dictators in less than eight years.
